This is the last in Charlaine Harris' series about Lily Bard. I read on her website that she has no plans to write more books in this series. That's too bad because I liked Lily and would have enjoyed reading more about her.

This video is from a performance of The Raconteurs on "Later with Jools Holland". Later is one of my favorite British music shows. You may remember Jools (he was the keyboardist for Squeeze back in the day) who now has, and has had for several years now, a show called Later with Jools Holland. Basically, Jools stands in the middle of a room and points around him introducing bands one at a time who then perform live. He usually has about 5 bands a show and sometimes he performs with them.

I really like The Raconteurs. Two of the guys in the band are favs of mine. Jack White (of the White Stripes) and Brendan Benson. I can't say enough about Brendon's music. His solo CD's are brilliant.

This book got only an 8 because the ending broke my heart. Ms. Harris has a way of moving each separate book series (she has four) along so that they never get boring. I'm sure this is why she ended the book the way she did. The ending will make a HUGE difference in the rest of the series. It was written well and I am very fond of Aurora Teagraden, the main character. But I am just very shocked and saddened by the ending of this book.

This was her first book. It's not part of a series. There was a part in the book where she wrote about a violent crime that was so real....it's was almost like you were there. It was painful to read but really made you feel what it would have been like to go through what the victim was going through. I thought her writing was amazing. Especially for a first book.

This book had an unexpected but welcome turn in the storyline. I enjoy how she continues to develop her characters with each new book in a series.

Gee, was this book fun. I couldn't put it down. It began where the first season of HBO's True Blood left off. And the ending........just made my eyebrows go up and I said "get outta here" right out loud. Can't wait to read the third one and I know I'm gonna be disappointed when I finish the ninth one. I really like her other books too but she just really got it right with her "Southern Vampire" books.

CD REVIEW - JULIAN COPE

I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Julian Cope so imagine my happiness when The Editor and I found the above CD (which is packed in a little box) at Savers for $3.00. Oh, yeah. Cheap and sweet. After listening to it from beginning to end while I was by myself driving to and from work......I just fell in love with this CD. Songs full of aliens, the sun, the moon, spaceships, trees, the earth, etc. It is totally a concept album. I found the review below on Amazon.com by Jim Derogatis. He nailed this CD so I just decided instead of me trying to explain it.......I'd put his review below. What a find for me!!!

Genuine rock eccentrics are so hard to come by these days that we settle for transparent poseurs in bad Halloween makeup. Julian Cope is the real deal-so thoroughly out there that he was too weird even for American Recordings. Fans in the U.S. have had to wait a year for him to find a domestic label for this, his 20th album(!), but now it's here, and it doesn't disappoint. The former leader of The Teardrop Explodes is once again examining some of his favorite themes-environmental panic, pagan mystery, goddess worship, and technological fascism-tying them all together in a concept album about aliens visiting the earth in ancient times and giving us the secrets to personal happiness. I don't claim to understand it all, but the massive hooks, freaky Krautrock synthesizers, driving rhythms, and Cope's Iggy Pop-on-acid vocals mean that I don't have to, and neither will you. Just check out "I Come From Another Planet, Baby." Truer words were never sung. --Jim Derogatis

LUNAR HALO LAST NIGHT!

This picture really does not do justice to the sight we saw last night. The Editor took this picture and he explains it best:

"For those of you awake late last night, (or, like us, awakened by a phone call) who went outside, there was a spectacular sight. A lunar halo surrounded the moon, in what looked like a pale, circular rainbow. I took some photos but it was at the very limit of my camera's ability under those conditions, especially with a bright streetlight right next to my house.

From the little reading I did, lunar holoes are caused by moonlight refracting through ice crystals in very high clouds. It covers about 44 degrees of the sky; from our point of view, it looked to be eight or 10 times as wide as the moon."

Okay, back to me. In my own words....it was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. And what touched my heart even more was the fact that my son wanted me to share in seeing this with him. How wonderful that he thought of me and wanted me to experience something so beautiful with him.
